Hollow Knight takes core features of the genre and then tries to tell you they're special. But unlike a lot of games that carry those adjective, the gameplay of Hollow Knight is incredible as well. The metrovania genre is one thats enjoyable but often difficult for a lot of people to get fully invested in. Hollow Knight is a metroidvania at its core and while it doesn’t do anything new per se for the genre, it perfects a lot of already established gameplay mechanics.
